I live in a cooperative apartment in […]. The building was built in the mid 1960s. My unit needed extensive renovations; including full sheet rocking, electrical rewiring, extensive carpentry and painting. When I tried to find a contractor, it took many months. The problems with potential contractors included: refusing the job as specifications were too complicated, building has too many rigid rules, no freight elevator, no place to park to unload materials, and the City of Long Beach makes it very difficult for outsiders to get permits.

The expression that renovations are more complicated than new construction proved to be an understatement.

Joe assured me that if I hired his company and something did not turn out right, to my satisfaction or his, he would rip it out and do it again. Joe assured me that he would never leave the job until it was just as I planned. Should a problem develop, I could always reach him, or he would call me back immediately. If I thought it was necessary, he would come to my apartment in […] which is over one hour from his office.

When the job was finished,

Word spread and I gave tours of my apartment to my neighbors.

I lived in the apartment while the work was going on, so every day there were workers present.

The men who worked here were respectful and a pleasure to have around
